What Does “FDA Registered” Mean for Supplements?

Why FDA registration, approval and structure/function claims are different concepts.

Registration is not approval

FDA explains that dietary supplement structure/function claims generally are not pre-approved. Manufacturers using qualifying structure/function claims must have substantiation and meet applicable notification and disclaimer requirements.

FDA: label claims for foods and dietary supplements

Why wording matters

A structure/function claim describes an effect on normal structure or function; a disease claim is different and can trigger drug requirements. “FDA registered” should not be used to imply that FDA has endorsed or approved a supplement.
